Guidelines and Opportunities for E/PO

The Science Mission Directorate (SMD) is committed to fostering the broad involvement of the science research community in E/PO with the goal of enhancing the Nation's formal education system and contributing to the broad public understanding of science, mathematics, and technology. Making progress towards achieving this goal has become an important part of the broad justification for public support of science.

SMD invests in education and public outreach in many ways and provides a variety of pathways for researchers to participate.  These include E/PO embedded in missions, E/PO supplements to research awards, and open solicitations such as the ROSES program element, Education and Public Outreach Opportunities in Earth and Space Science.  Please check the E/PO News for current opportunities available through NSPIRES.

(For example to find the current opportunity for E/PO in Earth and Space Science, you would go to the NSPIRES website, select "Solicitations" then "Open Solicitations" then "NNH07ZDA001N", and download the “Complete ROSES 2008” and scroll to Appendix E – element E.5).

Your comments and suggestions on how to continue to improve this process are always welcome. If you have comments or questions, please contact HQ-SMD-ROSES-EPO.
