If you have NASA Science Mission Directorate (SMD) funding and you want to use NASA High-End Computing (HEC) resources for your research, then you must request allocation for the HEC systems that you wish to use.
The NASA Science Mission Directorate (SMD) is currently accepting requests for HEC time on the NASA Advanced Supercomputing (NAS) facility at NASA Ames Research Center and for NASA Center for Computational Sciences (NCCS) resources at NASA Goddard Space Flioght Center. Requests are solicited for FY10Q1 awards to begin November 1, 2009, and expire October 31, 2010. A committee of SMD program managers will consider requests submitted via e-Books to the SMD rolling submission call by the September 20, 2009, deadline.
See http://www.hec.nasa.gov for information on the HEC resources that are currently available. The Discover cluster at NCCS has recently been expanded. The Pleiades supercomputer at NAS is ideal for projects that require a large number of processors. Some codes run more efficiently at NAS on the Columbia or Schirra systems. Contact NCCS support (email) or NAS support (email) for help in determining which resource might handle your project's codes most effectively.
If you wish to begin an SMD funded project on HEC resources on November 1, please submit an e-Books request by September 20 for HEC allocation at NAS or NCCS through the e-Books Submissions process. Follow the directions posted at https://ebooks.reisys.com/gsfc/nccs/submission/index.jsp?solId=27 to obtain an e-Books username and password. The SMD submission instructions are also posted in e-Books. E-mail e-Books with questions concerning the e-Books system. For questions on the SMD HEC allocation process contact HEC support (email).
